Аннотация (англ)
This study is devoted to the radiological assessment of cranial asymmetries in the transverse plane in patients with distal occlusion (class II occlusion of canines and molars according to Angle and skeletal class II) and their relationship with the work of the masticatory muscles and headache symptoms. The study involved 120 people aged 18-45 years (105 women and 15 men) with complaints of malocclusion and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, of which 68 patients with distal malocclusion (58 women and 10 men) were included in the main group. The control group consisted of 20 people with class 1 occlusion of canines and molars according to Angle and skeletal class I. All patients underwent examination: tele radiography (TRG) of the skull in direct and lateral projection, MRI of the TMJ, CBCT or MSCT of the skull (23x26 cm), detailed photometry, diagnostic models, axiography and electromyography (EMG) of the masticatory muscles. The position of the temporal bones, the presence of displacement of the lower jaw, the inclination of the occlusal plane, the difference in the symmetry of the position of the bones on the right and left sides in combination with the bioelectrical activity of the masticatory and sternocleidomastoid muscles were studied. As a result of the study, asymmetries of the position of the cranial bones in the transverse plane were revealed in patients of the main group, in combination with a violation of the electrical potential of the muscles. In the control group, the degree of asymmetries of cranial structures and muscle activity disorders was significantly less. The results demonstrate the relationship between the position of the skull bones and the tone of the masticatory muscles, which in turn play an important role in the formation of balanced occlusion and the functioning of the TMJ. The data obtained substantiate the need for careful diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of all patients with bite pathology.
