The study of the ratio of spongy and compact bone substance in different age groups is of great clinical importance during implantation and subantral augmentation surgery. With a decrease in the volume of trabecular bone, the risk of perforation of the floor of the maxillary sinus increases. The development of this complication is associated not only with iatrogeny, but also with the individual anatomy of the maxillary sinus. Objectives. The purpose of the study is to study the change in the ratio of compact and spongy bone substance in men and women. Material and methods. Based on CBCT data, 144 maxillae (288 maxillary sinuses) were studied. The volume of trabecular and compact bone in the premolar and molar areas was measured in the following age groups: 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, and 65 years and older. Results of the study showed that in both men and women, the ratio of compact and spongy bone changes with age, with the compact bone volume increasing and the trabecular bone volume decreasing. Conclusion. The choice of the technique and type of surgical intervention depends on the clinical situation, namely, on the volume of trabecular bone sufficient for implant placement. In cases of insufficient spongy bone volume in the premolar and molar areas, subantral augmentation surgery followed by implantation is indicated.
