A survey of 134 dentists was conducted on the issues of knowledge of the anatomy of the maxillary sinuses, features of radiographic diagnostics, instrumental and medicinal treatment of root canals and possible complications arising in the upper jaw during endodontic treatment. Objective. Study of the causes of perforation of the maxillary sinus floor during endodontic treatment. Material and methods. A questionnaire was developed for dentists. The questions concerned work experience, diagnostics before planning endodontic treatment, methods of instrumental and medicinal treatment of root canals, doctor's tactics in case of perforation of the maxillary sinus floor, as well as self-assessment of knowledge of the sinus structure. The results of the survey showed that most doctors had sufficient work experience from 10 to 20 years. Respondents assess their knowledge of the anatomical and topographic structure of the maxillary sinus as «satisfactory» and «good», more often use the machine method of root canal treatment, use 3% sodium hypochlorite as an irrigant, always determine the length of the root canal using an apex locator and take into account the structural features of the sinus mucosa. Conclusion. Despite the knowledge of the anatomy of the maxillary sinuses, the use of radiographic diagnostic methods at the stage of preparation for endodontic treatment, the number of perforations of the maxillary sinus during endodontic interventions does not decrease.
