Safety Aspects of Ultrasonic toothbrushes (Lina Naomi Hashizume is an associate professor and researcher at the Department of Preventive and Social Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. She graduated from the Dentistry program at the State University of Campinas (Brazil) and received her phd from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (Japan). Her research fields include dental caries, oral microbiology, oral biofilms, ultrasound in dentistry, oral biochemistry and saliva. She is a reviewer for several academic journals in the dental field).

This article addresses the safety aspect of the 20 year old ultrasonic toothbrush technology by reviewing the physics of ultrasound and by surveying existing published articles on the subject.
